Finally... I'm creating a website to share past, current, and future projects!
I'm Kristin Vining and I work in the music departments of Whitman College, Walla Walla Community College, and Walla Walla University in the beautiful Walla Walla valley of Washington state. I'm a composer, pianist, accompanist, and teacher.
Working on projects and collaborating with fellow artists is one of my favorite things to do. I work with dancers, singers, instrumentalists, actors and directors, film students, poets, authors, visual artists... The more disciplines, the better!
I'm always composing; for dancers, singers, theatre, friends, and students.
I'm inspired by many things: art, poetry, literature, movement, the ocean, raindrops, Paris, history, inspiring men and women, students, coffee...
The images on this website are from my composition field trip to Cannon Beach, OR, where I worked on ideas for "The Fisherman and His Soul," an original modern ballet for John Passafiume based on the fairy tale by Oscar Wilde. This project is still in the developmental stage, but is a good example of what I enjoy working on.
All of the music on this website is original and is a sampling of my compositional output. I'm also the pianist in these recordings.
Some of my pieces are composed note for note, but many of them leave room for improvisation and creativity.
